Orange the World 2024: Clariane united against violence against women

Clariane Group

Since 1991, from 25 November to 10 December, the Orange the World campaign has called on all sectors of society—governments, businesses, associations, and media—to unite to end violence against women. Deeply committed to this cause, as a mission-driven company with over 80% of its workforce being women, Clariane is participating for the fourth consecutive year in these 16 days of activism to say STOP to violence against women.

The Clariane community rallies together for Orange the World

Under the impetus of the Clariane Women’s Club, the Orange the World awareness campaign will be promoted in all the countries where we operate. The aim is not only to raise awareness about violence against women but also to foster an environment of kindness and listening. This involves encouraging victims to speak out and providing our teams with advice on how to support them effectively.

During this campaign, each employee, whether at our headquarters or facilities, will be invited to symbolically wear an orange garment or accessory. This simple gesture will allow everyone to become an ambassador for this cause, among colleagues, as well as patients, residents, and their families.

To support discussions around violence and encourage speaking out, communication tools will be made available to all our employees. Among these tools:

  • The Violence Meter, an educational tool designed to help women identify violent or potentially violent behaviours, will be widely distributed.
  • A fact sheet on stereotypes concerning women victims of violence.
  • A practical guide with useful numbers and initial advice for managers in case of suspected violence.

Finally, events will be organised locally, at the initiative of different countries and facilities. Webinars, support marches, workshops, and other actions will strengthen this collective momentum in favour of equality and respect for women's rights.

Did you know? Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread and persistent human rights violations worldwide. This violence, affecting women of all backgrounds, ages, and social statuses, takes various forms: psychological, verbal, sexual, physical, and even economic.

In Europe, one in three women (33%) has experienced physical and/or sexual violence since the age of 15.

Focus on our local actions

Germany

Korian Germany will strengthen the sense of community by providing orange T-shirts to the teams, bearing the slogans “we care”, “we support”, “we commit”, “we unite” and so on. As part of the #StOpE initiative, five online training sessions will be organised to raise awareness about violence against women.

The 16 days of the campaign will also be accompanied by a social media contest to encourage employees to take action in their facilities and highlight their efforts.

Belgium

Teams, residents, families, and volunteers will wear orange jackets, symbolising their shared commitment. Mayors of the cities and other stakeholders will be invited to join the various events. In the facilities, wellness activities such as massage, yoga, and Pilates sessions will be offered to the care teams and residents. Korian Belgium will also highlight e-learning modules on managing issues related to violence, as well as podcasts on domestic violence. Each employee will be invited to wear a pin made by a resident, in line with Clariane's Positive Care philosophy and the symmetry of care.

Italy

All healthcare professionals will wear an orange mask, a simple yet powerful gesture.

In partnership with the Fondazione Onda and the D.i.R.e association, Korian Italy facilities will participate in the Open Week against Violence on Women, offering free services to support women victims of violence.

In the days leading up to 25 November, a wall/display board will be set up in a dedicated area of each facility. Teams will be invited to anonymously write a “sexist phrase” or a stereotype on a post-it and stick it on the wall. The wall will remain visible until 25 November to discuss the collected messages. On 25 November, a postcard will invite employees to transform the wall into a “wall of kindness” by placing a positive message post-it next to each negative message. The new post-its will be of different colours to highlight the change. Everyone can attach drawings, poems, small objects, a flower, or any other token. Those who participated in building the wall of kindness will receive a “kindness ribbon” as a symbol of their contribution.

The “L’Arte InGenere - Tu sotto la mask” contest, launched on International Women's Rights Day in Korian Italy facilities, will conclude. Victims of violence, often forced to live behind a mask out of fear of being judged or to protect their abuser, have been able to express their unspoken emotions through mask creation or writing poems and stories. This contest aims to give them the strength to speak out, share their suffering, and seek help.

Spain

One of the main initiatives in Spain will be to create a roll-up banner with photos of the participants in the Orange the World campaign, each accompanied by a personal statement explaining their commitment to this cause.

From 25 November, excerpts from the Women’s Club Spain magazine will be shared. These excerpts will feature expert opinions and articles to foster a deeper understanding of issues related to violence against women.

France

On 25 November, Clariane France’s headquarters across the country will host the “Instant Café”, a convivial moment for exchange. This event will be an opportunity to remind employees of the Group's commitments to women's rights and the existing tools to raise awareness and support employees. It will highlight:

  • The social service of Clariane France and the various forms of support it provides to women in need.
  • The partnership of the Clariane Foundation “Aimer soigner” with the Maison des femmes de Saint-Denis. This unique care centre supports women in difficulty by offering comprehensive social, medical, and legal assistance.

On 5 December, a webinar will be organised by the social service to remind employees of the services offered within Clariane to advise and support women victims of violence, as well as to inform them about the procedures to follow with the police in case of filing a complaint. A member of the National Gendarmerie will be present for this.

The missions of the social service are very concrete and proof of real commitment. Clariane France’s social service notably manages the solidarity fund, which, among other things, allows for emergency accommodation for a woman victim of violence. In two years, the number of support cases for female employees has quadrupled.

This year, the social service will distribute a directory listing, region by region, associations and their contacts, to better guide women victims of violence and enable them to receive support from external experts on these issues.

The Paris headquarters teams will also have the opportunity to participate in a wish tree, allowing everyone to express their hopes and commitments for a future without violence.

Showing consideration also means being able to listen to the situations of violence that our teams or colleagues may encounter. Let us mobilise for the Orange The World campaign.
