Caring for caregivers and promoting care professions – the Clariane Foundation "Aimer Soigner" is committed and is taking action

Foundations

To mark World Health Day, Clariane published the results of a European study conducted with Ipsos on how caregivers are valued.
A striking figure emerges: 66% of European caregivers feel valued in their role. But behind this encouraging average, the study reveals disparities across professions, countries and different groups’ perceptions.

The study highlights that their recognition has been eroded since the pandemic.
In France, for example, only 59% of caregivers say they feel valued, and 58% feel that their recognition has fallen over the past five years. Among the drivers of improvement that the caregivers themselves identified, two major themes emerge:

•    public awareness of their professions through positive communication campaigns (51%), talks and events in schools (46%) and open days in healthcare facilities (42%).
•    continuous high-quality training, especially around the relationship with patients (45%).

The Clariane Foundation "Aimer Soigner" is already taking concrete action on these two key topics

Since January 2023, the Clariane Foundation has been working to take care of caregivers and promote healthcare professions, particularly among the younger generations.

Several of its practical initiatives directly address the expectations revealed in the Ipsos study.

Raising public awareness of the breadth of healthcare professions

  • The “Aimer Soigner” Podcast

This immersive podcast (in French) features 14 caregivers from the Clariane community, who share their daily lives, commitments, worries and passions.
It’s a sensitive and authentic journey, taking listeners behind the scenes of healthcare professions and highlighting often hidden paths.

  • “Memoirs from caregivers”, a collection of life stories

Produced with biographer Régine Zohar, this collection (in French) highlights the journeys of committed caregivers through touching, inspiring life stories.
It’s a powerful tool to change how we see these essential professions and inspire careers.

Meeting young people to inspire careers

For younger secondary school students

  • Talks and events in schools with Alliance pour l’éducation – United Way

In 2023/2024, 23 Clariane volunteers met with more than 700 secondary school students to introduce them to their professions, as part of a programme by Alliance pour l’éducation – United Way.  These practical exchanges help to create direct links and lead to lightbulb moments.

Through mentoring with the Telemaque association, the Foundation also supports secondary school students with their career plans.

For older secondary school students

  • Twinning between vocational schools and care facilities

Launched in 2023 and extended with the charity C’Possible, this innovative initiative gives secondary school students the opportunity to discover caregiving professions in the field, through discovery placements and discussions between professionals and schools. It was extended in 2024/2025 to cover five facilities in France.

For pupils and students

  • “When I become a caregiver” brunch meetings

Aimed at student nursing assistants and nurses, these informal meetings are an opportunity to chat with professionals about their experience, their careers and their vision of the profession. The aim is to build future caregivers’ confidence and give them inspiring role models.

Studies and research: better understanding for better action

  • Ipsos survey of 3,500 young Europeans on behalf of the Clariane Foundation

The survey reveals young people’s interest in healthcare professions as well as the obstacles that need to be removed to make this interest a reality.
It’s a valuable tool for adapting field actions to younger generations’ expectations.

  • CIFRE doctoral thesis on the history of nursing assistants

Conducted with the University of Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne, this research provides an unprecedented historical insight into an essential profession, often absent from the great tales of healthcare.

For us, “Aimer Soigner” is a way of helping you understand all aspects of caregiving professions in this beautiful and noble task of caring for and supporting people. To think about what these caregiving professions are, what they really involve both personally and collectively.

Serving careers through lasting commitment

The Ipsos study clearly shows that caregivers want to be better recognised, listened to and supported. And for that, they are calling for more visibility, more training and greater connection with society.

The Clariane Foundation "Aimer Soigner"  is already working to achieve this, rolling out practical measures to raise awareness of healthcare professions and encouraging people to get involved.

Because above all, inspiring vocations is about creating encounters, telling true stories, enabling people to identify with a career, and making people want to, quite simply, enjoy caring.
